There's been a fair few Viking-themed games released of late including the legendary Thunderstruck and Thunderstruck II series of games.
So the Viking theme has been revisited a fair few times over the years but that hasn't stopped Makeitone Gaming adopting it as the central theme to their Vikings' Victory slot. This new game is focused more on the Viking's fearsome reputation as warriors and their seemingly endless victories as they spread throughout the northern lands.
So what does this rather elegant looking slot have to offer? Let's take a closer look and see whether this is a Viking game that will conquer all, or whether it's got a leaky longboat and not likely to make it out of slot harbor.

Slots LV caters to players from Canada (all provinces) and the United States with the exception of residents of New York and Maryland.
The presentation of the slot is rather nicely done with the Wheels superimposed over the image of a Viking Longboat set against the backdrop of snowy mountains and other boats in the misty distance. The music is somewhat cheerful and uplifting, perhaps not what you would expect with the theme but it does fit nicely in with the pace and style of the slot.
The console is made out to look like it is part of a longboat with wooden effect look to the buttons. You can change the size of your bet using the Change Bet button. Here you can not only adjust the size of the coin, but also the number of coins bet per payline (from one to ten) which gives players an even greater range and flexibility of bets.
There is a Spin button that can get the reels spinning and also a Gamble feature which can be used when you land a winning spin and want to try and increase the amount of money won. There is an auto-play feature at the top of the screen which allows you to play up to 99 spins at a time if you prefer to play that way.
What's on the reels?
There are a number of different symbols on the reels and the lowest value symbols are the playing card lows which range from nine through to the ace and which offer payouts of between 5 coins and 150 coins depending on the symbol landed and the number you manage to land on a payline.
There are four higher value symbols on the reels too, all Viking warriors of one kind of another, the Archer and the Viking without the horned helmet offer payouts of up to 250 coins, while the Viking warrior with the horned helmet and the blacksmith both offer payouts of up to 300 coins, plus you can earn a small 2 coin payout if you land just two on a payline.
The only other two features on the slot are the Wild symbol and the Scatter symbol, which we will examine in more detail below.
The Wild symbol is the Viking carrying the mace and this symbol can be used to substitute for any of the other symbols in the game, apart from the scatter. When it does, it can trigger multiple additional paylines on a spin and of course, the more of these symbols you can land on a single spin, the more chance you have of hitting a bigger cumulative win.
However, the Wild symbol is also the key to the 5,000 coin jackpot in the game as if you can land Wilds across the reels on a payline then they also trigger wins. Five Wilds across the reels offers you the chance to win a massive 5,000 coins jackpot.
Free Spins Features
The Scatter symbol, which is the Viking holding the two double-headed axes, offers a payout of between 1 and 300 coins depending on whether you land between 2 and 5 across the reels. In addition to this payout, the scatters also trigger the Free Spins bonus game when you land three or more across the reels.
In Free Spins you are given a total of 7 Free Spins with a 3x multiplier but before that round kicks off you are taken to the other bonus feature of the slot, the prize selection screen. We'll explain more about this in the selection below.
Once your prize has been decided from the prize selection game, then you start the free spins bonus round and if you can hit more of the scatters during the bonus, you'll not only trigger additional free spins, but another pick of the prize selection screen and this time, your prizes all come with a 3x multiplier on the amounts too.
It is possible therefore, especially if you can re-trigger the free spins, that you could land a sizeable win from this bonus round.
Other Bonus Features
The prize selection screen occurs once Free Spins have been triggered but prior to the free spins round starting. On screen there are a number of containers of variable types and you get to pick three out of the assorted containers as your prize.
Each of the containers you pick will reveal a prize and these are added together to give you a cash prize before the free spins bonus even begins. Once you have your cash prize, then the spins will begin.
You can also re-trigger this prize selection screen if you trigger additional free spins in the bonus game, only this time any cash prize you win will be subject to a 3x multiplier.
In addition to this bonus feature, you can also Gamble any cash prize using the Gamble button. When you do you are given a choice of whether to collect the stated prize, or to try and double your money. You do this by picking a card from the four available that has a higher value than the card turned over by the dealer. Pick a higher card and you double your money. You can then elect to collect your cash, or play on and try to double it up again in the same way.
Best feature of the Vikings' Victory slot
Without doubt the Free Spins round and the prize selection bonus round that comes before it is the key feature of the Vikings' Victory slot and it is the best aspect of it by a country mile. The fact that you know you are going to win at least the amount you select in the bonus round makes the free spins section even more enjoyable and takes the edge off somewhat if you don't quite have the blockbuster win in free spins that you wanted.
However, the bonus really comes into its own if you can re-trigger it during the free spins round. If you do, you get that crucial second pick of the prize selection screen and this time, your prize has a 3x multiplier which really ramps up the value and you get an additional seven free spins added on to those you already have. That is when the bigger value prizes can be won on the slot.
What does Vikings' Victory slot lack?
While Vikings' Victory has a very good bonus round, to be truthful the other aspects of the game don't really add up to a great deal. The base game is somewhat dull and is simply an exercise in trying to hit the bonus game as most of the base game wins are generally small, many of which don't even cover the bet you make in the first place.
Also with no other bonuses or especially no other Wild features to keep you interested in the base game, you do quickly get a little bored of what is essentially just a free spins slot with the added bonus of a cash prize selection round before the spins begin.
That's a shame because it does detract from what is a decent slot and a particularly good bonus as players may not have the patience to play through the base game to enjoy the best features of the slot.
Vikings' Victory is a hollow one for me. The base game is too bland compared to other slots and the way that the scatters and wilds are used in the standard game are just too generic and simplistic compared to the features you can find on other slots. No Expanding Wilds, no Rolling Reels, no Sticky Wilds, anything like this would have brightened the base game up and made Vikings' Victory a lot more enjoyable.
That's a shame as if you can get through to the base game, then it is an absolute corker to play and can reward you with some sizeable wins. The Gamble feature is also a nice touch too and offers you a decent chance to double up those lower value wins. However, it is a very simplistic game and doesn't compare too well to some of the more imaginative slots you can find around today.
